If you’ve visited our store recently, you might have noticed things are looking a little different around here. While we are thrilled to have the website refreshed, it’s just the first of many exciting improvements in the pipeline. At the end of the day, our focus is not on flashy technology. Our passion remains growing the hobby by providing the best products and materials at extraordinary value.
Over the last few months, we haven’t just been updating web pages. We have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, sourcing the absolute best tumbling grit available. We want to make it incredibly easy for tumbling enthusiasts to know they are getting the highest possible quality without any second-guessing.
Not all grit is created equal. If you have ever purchased cheap grit online, you may have found that it breaks down too quickly, leaves deep scratches, or is inconsistent in size. Poor quality abrasives can ruin weeks of tumbling and destroy your favorite stones. When you purchase from us, you can trust that our grit is consistently sized, exceptionally hard, and manufactured to strict standards.
This is the exact grit I use in my own shop. We aren’t just selling lapidary supplies; we are tumbling right alongside you. After running countless rocks through my own barrels, this is the premium, USA-made silicon carbide grit that I personally rely on for a flawless finish. Now, I am thrilled to share it directly with you.
Today, we are so excited to announce that our 60/90, 220, and 500 Silicon Carbide grit is now officially available in 5LB resealable plastic bottles!
Why Plastic Bottles Instead of Bags?
If you have ever wrestled with a heavy, dust-covered plastic bag of grit, you know the struggle. Ziploc-style bags inevitably get fine grit stuck in the tracks and refuse to seal properly. Even worse are the cheap, heat-sealed bags that offer absolutely no way to close them back up once you cut them open! Bags can easily puncture or tear, leading to a massive mess in the shipping box or a disaster on your workbench. Not to mention, scooping out of a floppy bag often results in spilled powder.
We wanted a better, cleaner experience for our customers. That is exactly why we made the deliberate choice to package our 5lb bulk sizes in sturdy, wide-mouth plastic bottles.
- 100% Mess-Free: The twist-off cap keeps your workspace clean and makes it incredibly easy to scoop out exactly what you need.
- No Cross-Contamination: A tight, secure seal ensures no stray particles get in (or out), protecting your stones from scratches.
- Built to Last: They keep moisture out, they won’t blow out or tear, and they stack perfectly on your supply shelf.
Our “Thank You” to the Community
We know that for frequent tumblers, buying grit a pound at a time just doesn’t cut it. You need bulk options that are convenient and, most importantly, affordable.
Providing this community with top-tier supplies at an unbeatable value is something we take to heart. We priced these new 5LB bottles to with our loyal customers in mind and our way to say a massive, heartfelt “thank you” to our loyal customers. You have supported us, shared your tumbling journeys with us, and trusted us with your business. We believe that everyone should have access to professional-grade abrasives without breaking the bank, and this is our way of making that a reality.
To celebrate this milestone, we are running a special Initial Launch Sale on all 5LB grit jars for a limited time! If you’ve been waiting to stock up for your larger barrels or just want to make sure you have plenty of Stage 1, 2, and 3 grit on hand for the season, there has never been a better time to grab a few bottles. What’s Next?
This is just the beginning of what we have planned! We know many of you are already asking about Stage 4—rest assured, we are working with our supplier to source an exceptional final polishing grit, and it will eventually be joining our lineup to complete your tumbling process. We also love the convenience of our new packaging so much that we will soon be offering our smaller grit sizes in their own compact, mess-free plastic jars.
Beyond abrasives, we are hard at work sourcing a variety of exciting new tumbling varieties and will be greatly expanding our selection of high-quality rough rock.
Thank you again for being the best community out there. Head over to the shop to take advantage of the launch sale, and as always—happy tumbling!

How much does 5lb of 60/90 cost .And how do I purchase it?
Mike
Mike, thanks for the question. It looks like the link in the above post was incorrect. I’ve updated it so that it points to the correct location. All of our current grit can be found at https://www.superagates.com/tumbling/rock-tumbling-grit/
We are running a launch promotion of $20 for 5LBs. As with all of our other items, shipping is a flat rate order fee of $15 and is completely free on orders over $150. This can be quite a savings if you are combining with other items.
